Two local teens have died and three others are injured as a result of a crash early this morning in Horsham Township.
Edward Taylor Coombs, 19, of Horsham, and Robert Walker Nagle, 19, of Ambler, were found dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident near the intersection of Witmer and Norristown roads, according to a press release issued by District Attorney Risa Ferman and Horsham police Chief Robert Ruxton.
The vehicleâs other three passengers â" Conner James McNicholas, 19, of Ambler, Darryl Neville Jr., 18, of Darby, and Timothy Kurpiel, 19, of Horsham â" were transported from the scene to Abington Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
At 1:19 a.m. this morning, police responded to the scene of the crash to find a 2007 Honda Civic that had come to rest in the rear yard of a residence on the 600 block of Wade Avenue, according to the release.
The Horsham Township Police Department and the Montgomery County Detectives Bureau have begun a joint investigation of the accident.
Initial investigations have determined McNicholas was driving the vehicle, which belonged to him, according to the release. He was traveling westbound on Witmer Road when the vehicle went off the road and hit a curb.
The car continued traveling off the road, crossing Wade Avenue and entering the rear year of the residence, according to the release. The vehicle continued moving, striking several trees before it came to a rest. According to preliminary analysis, the vehicle traveled 405 feet from the road to where it came to rest.
One of the surviving passengers told police the car was traveling at 99 MPH just seconds before the crash, according to the release.
The five in the car had just left a party and had been drinking beer and/or mixed drinks, according to police.
The investigation is continuing with interviews of the surviving passengers, autopsies, lab analysis of the driverâs blood and a crash reconstruction, according to the release.
