The man who was involved in a September 2009 car accident that killed two nuns has pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI manslaughter, according to the State Attorney's Office.
Michael Hickman was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on US41 in Cape Coral when he turned left into the path of a 2007 Toyota Prius driving southbound at the intersection with Gran Via.
Sister Karinne O'Malley, 80, and Sister Ann McFall, 84, of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, died in the crash.
Sister Elizabeth Meegan was driving the car. She sustained serious injuries in the accident.
FHP troopers noted at the time of the accident that the crash was alcohol related.
Hickman was sentenced to the maximum of 15 years in prison and 15 years probation. While on probation, Hickman cannot consume alcohol, must undergo alcohol screenings and give one lecture a year at a church or school about the dangers of alcohol abuse.
The State Attorney's Office says the families of the victims wanted to avoid having to go through a trial.
