SAN DIEGO -- A man who left his wife and child trapped in the family car after crashing into a parked van was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, police said Monday.
Officers and a fire crew went to the accident scene in the 4100 block of Clairemont Drive in Clairmont at about 2:30 a.m., police said. Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to free a woman, a 1-year-old baby and another family member from the car. All three had minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out, police said.
The driver, 28-year-old Kenneth Biggs, had left the accident scene before rescuers arrived, investigators said.
Police found Biggs a short time later at the family's home. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Officers said additional charges could be filed when the District Attorney's Office gets the case.
