State AG honors three fallen police officers

<p>MONTGOMERY | Attorney General Luther Strange on Thursday honored three police officers including Tuscaloosa Police Officer Trevor Scott Phillips, who died in the line of duty this year.</p><p>Strange honored Phillips, Anniston police Officer Justin Sollohub, and Jemison police Officer Donald Newman at the 12th annual Attorney General's Law Enforcement Summit in Birmingham.</p><p>Memorial flags were presented to members of the officers' families.</p><p>Phillips, 42, died May 21 when the motorcycle he was riding while escorting a funeral procession collided with a car in the procession line, Strange said. Phillips was in the traffic division and had worked there since July 2007. Phillips was a member of TPD's Special Response Team. No charges were filed in the accident.</p><p>Sollohub, 27, died Aug. 25 after being shot in the head while chasing a suspect. He was kept on life support until his organs could be donated. The man who allegedly shot him was charged with capital murder.</p><p>Newman, 30, died March 5 when his patrol car hydroplaned during a heavy rain and hit a utility pole. He was going to another accident that involved children, officials said. He had been with the Jemison Police Department for a little more than two years and had been a military police officer for six years.</p>
