MENTOR -- A Mentor Fire Department rescue squad was involved in multiple-car accident on Center Street on the bridge over the railroad tracks Monday morning, south of Tyler Boulevard.
The Fire department tells Channel 3 that two firefighters and two other people were injured.
The fire department said two Mentor firefighters and one victim were taken to Hillcrest Hospital.
The fourth was taken to Lake West Hospital where they were subsequently taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center.
Center Street (State Rte. 615) was closed for more than an hour but reopened about 1:30 p.m..
Fire officials tell Channel 3 that apparently one of the cars crossed the center line and the squad swerved to avoid being hit. In turn, the squad struck another car. That car and the squad then hit a guardrail and almost went over the bridge.
The squad was responding to a call so it didn't have a patient in the squad yet.
