LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman James Loney was accused of spitting at a cop after being arrested over his part in a multiple-car accident last month, TMZ reported Thursday, citing a police report.

Loney was hospitalized after allegedly smashing his Maserati into a Toyota, a Mercedes and a Mini at around 6:00pm local time in Los Angeles on Nov. 14.

Police reportedly claim that Loney was "restless, unsteady, aggressive and irritable" and sweating profusely at the scene of the crash, which he claimed was caused by another driver.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in handcuffs after failing to name the month and day correctly but according to the report remained "uncooperative" and spat a mouthpiece at an officer amid a Breathalyzer test.

Loney was placed in arm and leg restraints and injected by hospital staff to calm him down after becoming aggressive, the report said. He later was released to hospital care and never formally booked for the incident.

Police said blood samples taken from Loney to test for drugs and alcohol subsequently came back negative.

Cops recommended to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office not to charge Loney with a crime in the case, sources told TMZ.
