A Hinds County Deputy was injured today when he was struck by a vehicle on US 80 in front of Metrocenter mall.
Capt. Joe Daughtry said around 2 p.m. Mike Boyd, who has been with the HCSO for six or seven years, saw something fall off a truck and into traffic. He stopped his vehicle and got out to clear the roadway.
When Boyd stepped into the roadway, the driver of an oncoming car saw him and stopped so he could retrieve the fallen item, but the car behind it did not stop.
The second car rear-ended the first, and that car was pushed into Boyd.
Daughtry said Boyd suffered a broken leg, and he will undergo surgery.
