James Loney had head injury, was not intoxicated, attorney said

Dodger James Loney's behavior after a car crash in November was the result of a head injury, not intoxication, his attorney said Wednesday.

The comments came after the Los Angeles city attorney's office announced there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against Loney, who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Maserati allegedly sideswiped several cars on the 101 Freeway.

Prosecutors said all drug tests on Loney came back negative.

Dmitry Gorin said in a statement that he was pleased with the resolution.

"Independent lab analysis re-confirmed that Mr. Loney did not have any unlawful substances or alcohol in his blood," he said. "The traffic accident reports described that Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics quickly responded to the scene and determined that Mr. Loney displayed symptoms consistent with head trauma, including disorientation. As a result of his trauma, Mr. Loney was immediately transported and admitted to Sherman Oaks Hospital for medical treatment."

The accident took place Nov. 14 about 6:12 p.m. on the 101 just west of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang. Loney, 27, was arrested at the scene and then taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital.
