Arrest made in hit-and-run fatality

Kewanee police Monday arrested Deondray M. Dearing, 23, of Toulon, in connection with a car-bicycle accident Friday night on Tenney Street that killed the bicycle rider.
Police said Albino M. DaSilva, 40, of Kewanee, died in the accident at about 10:40 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of Tenney Street.
Police Monday arrested Dearing on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an injury or fatal accident.
“Dearing will be remanded to the Henry County Jail awaiting a review of the case by the Henry County state’s attorney to determine formal charges. The incident remains under investigation with additional arrests possible,” said a news release Police Chief Jim Dison issued Monday.
Earlier Monday, police released information they have developed about the car involved in the accident.
“Based on evidence recovered at the scene, the Kewanee Police Depart-ment now believes the vehicle involved was a late model 2008 or 2009 Chev-rolet Malibu,” the release said. “The color is Techno Gray Metalllic and (the car) will have right front damage.”
Police answering a 911 call found DaSilva in the street. DaSilva was pronounced dead by Henry County Coroner David Johnson at the scene at 11:58 p.m.
Johnson said DaSilva suffered head and neck trauma.
Witnesses said the driver who struck the bicycle left the scene without stopping to render aid, according to police.
The vehicle was last seen southbound in the 400 block of Tenney Street,  Dison said.
