2 teens die in crash after driver swerves to avoid deer

NORWOOD, NC (WBTV) - Two teenagers are dead after a wreck threw them from the car they were riding in, and now the North Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver could face charges.

The wreck happened on Old Cottonville Road just west of Norwood in Stanly County at about 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Troopers say 16-year-old Jordan Carpenter was driving the car when he swerved to miss a deer, then over corrected flipping the car.

15-year-old Austin Burleson and 16-year-old Hunter Mauldin were passengers in the vehicle, and were killed.

Troopers say they plan to talk with the District Attorney's office to determine if charges should be filed against Carpenter.

Officials say he only had a restricted license because of his age, and should not have had multiple juvenile passengers.
