A county attorney says a grand jury will determine whether charges are warranted in a fatal squad car crash involving a New Ulm police officer.
Redwood County Attorney Steve Collins says he has reviewed the State Patrol's lengthy investigative report and will present the case to a grand jury.
Myra Meyer, 82, of New Ulm and her son, Brian Wichmann, 60, of Mankato died last July when their Mercury Sable was struck by a New Ulm squad car driven by Officer Mathew Rasmussen. The accident report says Meyer was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway when the car was hit.
The Mankato Free Press says the case was referred to Collins by the Brown County attorney's office since it works closely with New Ulm police.
