NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) -- A county attorney says a grand jury will determine whether or not charges are warranted in a fatal squad car crash involving a New Ulm police officer.
Redwood County Attorney Steve Collins says he has reviewed the State Patrol's lengthy investigative report and will present the case to a grand jury.
Eighty-two-year-old Myra Meyer of New Ulm and her 60-year-old son Brian Wichmann of Mankato died last July when their Mercury Sable was struck by a New Ulm squad car driven by Officer Mathew Rasmussen. The accident report says Meyer was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway when the car was hit.
The Free Press says the case was referred to Collins by the Brown County Attorney's office since it works closely with New Ulm police.
